The Project
The historical Shire Hall functions as the all-important headquarters of Warwickshire County Council. Reducing energy use is high on the agenda for the Council — it has committed to cutting its carbon footprint by 3% per annum over the next five years — but, due to Shire Hall’s status as a Listed Building, structural refurbishment needed to be kept to a minimum. In order to avoid incurring additional costs for asbestos removal, the Council was also keen to retain the existing fittings when upgrading its lighting. For this reason, the Council chose the simple retrofit solution of ‘Save It Easy®’.

Implementation
Using Save It Easy, 2,012 energy-efficient lamps — both Switchstart and Starterless, of sizes varying from 2ft to 8ft — were installed in Shire Hall.

Savings
The higher efficiency of the low-energy lamps, plus the more efficient control gear in the Save It Easy units, will allow Shire Hall to a make a total energy saving in the region of £199,647 over the estimated project life of 18.1 years. As a result of the project, Shire Hall will also save 1,367 tonnes carbon over the project’s lifespan.

Project Payback
Warwickshire County Council will achieve payback on the Shire Hall project in less than three years (33.4 months). The project has been so successful that Save It Easy will be rolled out to all properties managed by the Council, with installations being carried out at office buildings, schools and maintenance depots.
